Caffeine is a free utility software that prevents Apple Mac operating systems from displaying the screen saver and going to sleep. The Lighthead software company team members are the developers that published the freeware in December of 2010. The application is represented by a coffee cup icon that is within the right side of the upper menu bar.

This model is useful for people that would like to watch a movie or YouTube video as they do not need to tap the mouse or trackpad to wake up the screensaver. This works well to keep the Macbook active while performing download tasks, video conferences, etc.

If you have problems with your PC locking or going to sleep, caffeine will keep it awake. It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you're still working at the keyboard, so won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver.

Before this virtual caffeine for Mac computers was invented, users needed to access System Preferences and go to the Energy Saver panel to turn off automatic screen dimming and other options if they wanted to keep the computer awake for a while. And then they had to reverse the procedure when they finished whatever they were doing in order to restore the computer to its normal operating parameters. Caffeine solves this issue by providing a one-click interaction in the Menu bar, and has several very handy custom options.

Freeware programs can be downloaded used free of charge and without any time limitations. Freeware products can be used free of charge for both personal and professional (commercial use).

Open Source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify or enhance. Programs released under this license can be used at no cost for both personal and commercial purposes. There are many different open source licenses but they all must comply with the Open Source Definition - in brief: the software can be freely used, modified and shared.

This license is commonly used for video games and it allows users to download and play the game for free. Basically, a product is offered Free to Play (Freemium) and the user can decide if he wants to pay the money (Premium) for additional features, services, virtual or physical goods that expand the functionality of the game. In some cases, ads may be show to the users.

Demo programs have a limited functionality for free, but charge for an advanced set of features or for the removal of advertisements from the program's interfaces. In some cases, all the functionality is disabled until the license is purchased. Demos are usually not time-limited (like Trial software) but the functionality is limited.

This software is no longer available for the download. This could be due to the program being discontinued, having a security issue or for other reasons.

I am using MouseMove app which is an excellent app that I use everyday. It is not free ($5.99 in App Store) though but still gives me the best result. It also allows me to see how long I have enabled it.

Caffeine is a free menu bar utility that is available through the Mac App Store, it sits in your menubar and when you click on the cup of coffee, it prevents your Mac from going to sleep for a preset amount of time: from indefinitely to 5 minutes. I use Caffeine often and have it set to an hour, this is a really useful app.

The WaterMinder app is perfect! It's amazingly simple (especially with an Apple Watch) and has always worked flawlessly. The available complications for my watch are exactly what I was looking for, too. I downloaded the app when it cost $3 and would gladly do so again. This is a MUST HAVE app for health conscious iPhone and Apple Watch users!

When you download WinRAR for macOS, you get access to a utility tool that is quite efficient at compressing files. Once you run the program from the Terminal windows, it automatically identifies the type of multimedia file you wish to archive and then selects the best archiving method. In addition to this, the software works very fast and can extract and compress files quickly.

For users who often send sensitive information over the web, the WinRAR download comes with an encryption feature. It boasts 128-bit encryption and signature authentication technology that protects your data from any unauthorized action. Furthermore, WinRAR lets users split compressed files into different volumes so that users can quickly save them on multiple drives.

While limiting caffeine to this age group would be ideal, because of the increasing demands placed on teenagers in regards to school, sports, and even work; caffeine consumption is becoming more common with this age group.

Developing teens should have no more than 100 mg of caffeine daily due to the importance of sleep, brain development, inexperience with caffeine, and possibly unknown medical conditions.

Adults, as well as children, with diagnosed or undiagnosed medical conditions, can have adverse health implications with even small amounts of caffeine. For those with certain health conditions, giving up caffeine may be recommended.

If the coffee cup is full or active, the computer won't go to sleep. This is really useful when we're watching a film, we have a download application running, or we simply don't want our Mac to fall asleep. With a simple click on the cup, it will appear empty, and Caffeine will be deactivated. Therefore, the computer will go to sleep whenever it's configured to do so.

macOS hides menu bar apps when there is no space left in the menu bar. This is a common problem on MacBooks with a notch. Try quitting some menu bar apps to free up space. If this does not solve it, try quitting Bartender if you have it installed.

I download large files and I get annoyed when my Windows goes to sleep. The files either pause downloading or cancel them altogether. This is so irritating especially if files have been downloading for hours. Also, when streaming, movies pause when my Windows goes to sleep. This is particularly a hassle when you have to stand up and wake-up your Windows (I connect my Windows to a TV when streaming movies). JOLT OF CAFFEINE solves all these issues for me, and more... I highly recommend this app! It's absolutely free and without ads. Two thumbs up!

Caffeine was created with the Lounge Lizard EP-4 electric piano. You can obviously play and edit the sounds in Lounge Lizard EP-4, but you can also access and play them via the free AAS Player plugin included with your purchase.

That's where Caffeine (free) comes in to play. Caffeine is a Mac utility that sticks an icon in the right side of your menu bar, and prevents your Mac from automatically going into a rest state. Caffeine is available for download from both the manufacturer's website ( ) and the Apple Mac App Store. The tiny program, featherweight at 0.3MB, is a lightning-fast download for anyone with a decent internet connection, and a useful tool to boot.

Taking a Shot of CaffeineI performed three experiments to test caffeine's ability to keep a Mac awake. I set the computer to fall asleep, dim the screen, and launch the screensaver after a minute's time. Caffeine, after I clicked its icon, kept the computer awake each time. I like that you can tell whether Caffeine is running by checking to see if the coffee cup icon is full (activated) or empty (deactivated).
